Prechistenskaya naberejnaya

This dreamlike building, know as "Fairy-tale House" was constructed in 1905-1907 and represents the most famous Moscow example of the Modern and Neo-Russian styles combination.
In 1905 railway industrialist P.N. Pertsov announced a competition: prominent architects should have presented the projects of the apartment building, made in Russian style. Finally, architect Jukov and painter Malutin won this contest. The building combines the details of  Scandinavian Modern style and Russian "terem" patterns: mosaic panels with pagan symbols, balconies with dragons, red veneer, etc. This miracle construction was divided into two parts: central four floors were occupied by Pertsov family , other part included separated apartments, rented by rich Moscovites. The attic floor was made specially for the painters. Apart from that, the basement floor attracted the theater elite from the whole town, as there was the famous cabaret "Bat".
After revolution, Pertsov and his relatives were moved out and Soviet politician Trotskiy settled down in their apartment. Nowadays, the building is given to Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Corps Directorate.
